In Sitamarhi, the dam broke due to leakage from the mouse hole in the Bagmati embankment near Madhakaul village in Belsand block of the district, due to which flood water has entered 15 villages. A population of 30 thousand has been affected by this. This incident has caused serious distress to the local community. Along with Madhakaul, Jafarpur, Pandhiya, Olipur, Kansar and Basaul are prominent among the affected villages, where water has entered up to five feet. The flow of water is strong on the main roads as well as rural roads. Flood affected people are leaving their homes and taking shelter at higher places. Here, the SDRF team is busy rescuing people. People are being evacuated from their homes and taken to safe places.

Administration did not wake up even after receiving information about leakage

Local people say that the administration was informed about the leakage from the mouse hole in Madhakaul Dam since morning. However, administrative officials reached the spot and investigated the leakage, but did not send a technical team for assistance for four hours. Meanwhile, the villagers themselves started trying to stop the leak, but without proper resources and information they could not succeed. Ultimately the dam broke, due to which hundreds of houses were submerged. Villagers are being forced to move to safer places.

There was devastation after the dam broke

After the dam breach, a population of 30 thousand has been affected. The flow of water is happening very fast. At present the dam is broken by 50 feet but the situation is that its scope is increasing. People have left for higher ground. Hundreds of people are still trapped, and SDRF and NDRF along with nearby people are working to rescue them. It is being told that the houses of hundreds of people have been submerged, due to which their entire life’s earnings have also been washed away. Hundreds of cattle have also been washed away. However, some cattle have been rescued. People are leaving all the belongings kept in their houses and running to higher places with their children. After the breaking of the dam, the flow of water is now moving towards the villages of Runnisaidpur block, posing a threat to more villages. The situation of the local people is worrying, and they are in urgent need of relief material. The government and local administration now need to take immediate steps to resolve this crisis.
