Sunita, a kidney-less patient who was living amidst life and death, finally left this world at Muzaffarpur SKMCH Medical College. With her departure, she also raised questions on the system behind her. More than half a dozen people had come forward to become kidney donors, but the government did not show seriousness. The accused had removed both the kidneys on the pretext of uterus.

Who was Sunita, how did she become the victim of kidney theft? On the contrary, the accused had cheated her for Rs 30 thousand.

Sunita Devi, resident of Baji Raut of Sakra police station in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, came from a poor family. Last July, 2022, due to a sudden complaint of stomach ache, her family members went to a quack doctor, where the doctor kept treating her for several days and then advised for an operation. Sunita’s family members trusted the doctor. And it was decided that Sunita’s operation would be done in the month of September. After which in September, that doctor admitted Sunita to Shubhkant Clinic located in Bariyarpur of Sakra police station area, where Sunita was called in the afternoon in the name of operation. 30000 rupees were also taken. And there the alleged doctor Pawan of Shubhkant Clinic operated on Sunita from where she was sent home on the third day. After reaching home, Sunita Devi’s health started deteriorating and she was again treated by the same doctor. Sunita was advised to go to the city and get treatment.

When the investigation was done in the city hospital, it was revealed that the kidney was missing.

After this, after doing an ultrasound in the city, it was found that both the kidneys of Sunita Devi were not visible. After which the family members raised slogans and created ruckus in the fake hospital. Even after seeing this, she was admitted to Shri Krishna Medical College in Muzaffarpur district. Later, an FIR was registered in this matter and Sunita was referred to Patna for better treatment. So after that, seeing the increasing expenses of going from Muzaffarpur to Patna and her treatment, Sunita’s family brought her home. Seeing the helpless family members and small innocent children due to poverty and starvation, people from many social organizations also came forward and started putting pressure on the government to get Sunita Devi treated at Shri Krishna Medical College, Muzaffarpur.

Sunita admitted to ICU, trying to save her life by doing dialysis once a week.

Sunita was admitted to the Medical College of Muzaffarpur where she started undergoing dialysis regularly and in the meantime, Dr. Pawan Kumar, the accused of Sunita’s operation who was running the hospital, was arrested and he was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment. Meanwhile, a doctor, Dr. RK Singh ran away after which the police intensified the case. However, till now he could not be caught, due to his house being outside the district, warrant and attachment was started in another district on the orders of the court and then the attachment process started. The health of Sunita Devi is continuously deteriorating here. After which the team of SKMCH Medical College admitted him to ICU and tried to do dialysis every week so that his life could be saved. But now he died.

Had appealed even to JP Nadda, had also received assurance from DM

On the other hand, Sunita kept pleading from the District Collector to the Health Minister and the current BJP National President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda that at least a kidney should be arranged for her at the government level. For which Sunita was also consoled. It was said that something will be done soon in this direction. Earlier too, an appeal had been made to the state government, to Health Minister Mangal Pandey and CM Nitish. Till now, an assistance amount of Rs 14 lakh has been given to the family so that the family can be maintained. Nutrition could be provided. As long as a kidney donor was found for Sunita, Sunita said goodbye to the world.
