After the end of Diwali, the festival of lights, and Chhath Puja, the great festival of sun worship, foreigners who support their families by doing jobs or hard labor outside the district and state have started moving to other states. Due to which, apart from trains and buses going from Bihar, traffic is getting disrupted by small vehicles too. An example of which is that from late Sunday evening till now, there is a huge traffic jam on Jaiprakash Setu (Sonpur Digha), the lifeline connecting Bihar’s capital Patna to North Bihar. A passenger traveling through JP Setu said that it took about three to four hours to cover the distance of 6 kilometers.

A large number of passengers are stuck due to the jam of Patna Digha Bridge. Our vehicles were forced to move at a snail’s pace, crawling for hours. Long queues of vehicles formed on the bridge and traffic was completely disrupted. The situation has become so dire that apart from cars and motorcycles, the speed of other vehicles seems to have come to a complete standstill. Although such a situation is not present today, rather such scenes are being seen every day since Chhath Puja. The jam has started on the route from Sonpur towards Digha. Within no time, this jam spread on both sides of the bridge, which later took the form of a Mahajaam. Because Sunday is a holiday, a large number of people are going to travel to other districts or states including Sonpur, Digha and Patna. Due to which the congestion on the bridge had increased. By evening the situation became more dire and passengers had to face problems for hours to reach their destination.

RJD leader Sudhanshu Ranjan Pandey said that no concrete steps have been taken by the local district or police administration for traffic management to deal with the traffic jam. Due to which the problem of traffic jam has taken the form of Mahajaam. People trapped in the traffic jam were seen coming out of their vehicles and crossing the bridge on foot. However, many couples and their small children have been forced to walk on foot, facing difficulties due to this traffic jam. Because the children were completely bored sitting in the car for several hours. Although the traffic gradually became normal after about six hours, the patience of the passengers had worn out. The passengers stranded in the traffic jam have appealed to the administration to deploy additional police force to regulate the traffic on JP Setu and take concrete measures to control the traffic. So that such situation can be avoided in future. To avoid the problem of jam on the bridge, many people are forced to turn their vehicles back towards Hajipur via Gandhi Bridge.
