Expansion

With the entry of monsoon, the Kosi river has started showing its fierce form in the entire North Bihar area including Supaul. The water level of Kosi river has been continuously increasing since late Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, the highest discharge of this year has been recorded from Kosi Barrage at 8 pm on Thursday night. However, after this, a decline in discharge is being seen once again. 2 lakh 39 thousand 515 cusecs of water has been released from Kosi Barrage at 8 pm on Thursday night. After which there is a possibility of flood water spreading in the populated areas inside the Kosi embankment in the next 22 to 24 hours. However, the water level of the river started falling at the same speed late at night as it had risen rapidly since Thursday morning. Continuous fluctuations in the water level can increase the problems of the people, because due to this the risk of erosion has increased. However, in view of the flood, the administration is on alert mode. The increased discharge water from the barrage is likely to spread in the populated areas in the next 24 hours.

After recording the discharge, the water level fell continuously

Supaul District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar himself is keeping an eye on the situation. The rise and fall of the water level of Kosi river will also affect the areas of Madhubani, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Khagaria and Katihar districts along with Supaul. Actually, after heavy rains on Wednesday and Thursday in the catchment area of Kosi river located in Nepal, a continuous rise in the water level of the river was being seen. According to the data released by the Water Resources Department, there is a possibility of less rain in those areas on Friday and Saturday. One lakh 49 thousand cusecs of water was released into the river from Kosi Barrage at six in the morning on Thursday. Since then, there was a rapid increase in the discharge of the barrage. However, after recording the highest discharge of this year at 8 pm, the water level decreased continuously. At that time, 28 out of 56 gates of the barrage were opened. 2 lakh 27 thousand 750 cusecs of water was released from the barrage at 9 pm and 2 lakh 11 thousand 685 cusecs of water was released at 10 pm. After this, the discharge has been continuously recorded below two lakh cusecs. At 11 pm, one lakh 71 thousand 430 cusecs of water was released from the barrage.

Only 295 cusecs more water than was released 24 hours ago

At 6 am, 16 gates of the barrage were open. A further drop in discharge from the barrage is expected throughout the day today. Let us tell you that before this, for the first time this year, more than one lakh cusecs of water was released from Kosi Barrage at 12 o’clock on Wednesday night. Then the discharge of the barrage was recorded at just one lakh 5 385 cusecs. At 6 am on Wednesday, only 78 thousand 75 cusecs of water was released into the river from the barrage.

Farmers’ crops drowned, common people’s problems increased

Due to the rise in the water level of Kosi river in the last 24 hours, flood water has spread in many fields inside the embankment. Due to this, moong, maize and other crops grown in hundreds of acres have been destroyed. Water has started entering densely populated areas as well. Due to this, the people of the villages located within the Kosi embankment are facing difficulties in coming out of the embankment for important work. Although the administration has arranged for boats. But that is proving to be insufficient.

Right now the flow of the river is below the danger mark

According to the data released by the Water Resources Department, the flow of Kosi river at Basua Phatak in Supaul, Baltara in Khagaria and Kursela in Katihar has been recorded 2 to 3 meters below the danger mark. According to the information received from the Chief Engineer Flood Control Cell Office located in Veerpur, Supaul, both the embankments and spurs of Kosi are completely safe. In view of the fluctuations in the water level of Kosi river on both the embankments of Kosi, continuous monitoring and vigilance is being maintained. If the officials are to be believed, the current situation is completely under control.
