People have also raised questions on the arrangements of the Forest Department. Let us tell you that Basantpur block is adjacent to the Nepal border. The distance from Bhimnagar of Basantpur to Mrig forest of Nepal is only 12 to 13 kilometers. Since the Kushaha tragedy of 2008, there have been frequent reports of wild animals entering the area. Last year, on September 29, a record discharge of 6 lakh 61 thousand 295 cusecs of water was recorded from Kosi Barrage. Then the water of Kosi river had spread to the area of Mrig forest also. After which the entry of wild animals in Basantpur area has increased further. But the expert team of the Forest Department has not been deployed in the area.

Plant installed a year ago, not able to alert
In fact, in January 2023, the Forest Department had installed a solar animal repellent system within a radius of 5 kilometers on the Nepal border to protect against wild animals in the area. About 15 thousand rupees were spent on one plant and about 4 dozen plants were installed from Shaileshpur of Bhimnagar Panchayat to Fatepur village located on the border of Veerpur Nagar Panchayat. The plant alerts people through sirens on the entry of wild animals. Local people say that since the installation of the plant, the entry of wild elephants has reduced. But the entry of other animals continues. The plant is unable to alert people.
Expert said – Leopard is not mature yet, could have been more dangerous
Wildlife Medical Officer Dr. Sanjeet Kumar said that after looking at the picture, it appeared that this leopard has not matured yet. Tiger, leopard etc. are the smallest animals of the cat species. They are very powerful, dangerous and their claw nails are very big. Their speed is 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. It never attacks from the front. Always attacks secretly. Leopards always hunt small animals like goat, cock, monkey etc. and do not hunt big animals. Sometimes they even hunt cows, catch them and take them to a tree. They climb trees and eat, carrying with them a weight of up to two quintals. If the room was locked then narcotics would have been used with a dot gun. If the medicine is given intramuscularly through a tranquilizer gun, one becomes unconscious within 5 to 7 minutes. With their use you will remain unconscious for 30 to 40 minutes. Meanwhile, he is thrown into the cage. After this revival is given. So that it comes back to a healthy state.
