A young man from an ordinary family, resident of a remote village of Jehanabad, Bihar, has become an assistant professor of history in Delhi University. Which has become a matter of pride for the people of the village. The people of the village are not tired of expressing happiness over the achievement of their village’s son.

Mantu Sharma, resident of Ankopur village of Makhdumpur police station of Jehanabad, will now teach history to the students of Delhi University. He joined Motilal Nehru College (Evening) of Delhi University as Assistant Professor (Permanent) of History on Friday. Mantu told that his journey from being a student to becoming a teacher has been a very difficult one. But hard work and hunger to make his mark in the field of education made his journey easy. He told that his father Rampravesh Sharma, who retired from the post of Naib Subedar in the Indian Army, and mother Shamini Devi have been the sources of inspiration in Mantu’s life.

Mantu told that inspired by his father, he had gone to Sainik School, Kapurthala and wanted to serve the country. However, after his exit in the final round of SSB of National Defense Academy (NDA), he gave priority to his interest in the field of History. Concentrated on making his career in this. He told that he has learned from his father to always be ready for hard work. At the same time, mother inspired me to make a name for myself in the field of education. The mother herself could not study much, so her dream was that her son should understand the importance of education and also educate the deprived children in the society.

Mantu, who passed graduation from Satyawati College (Evening) of Delhi University in first division, has also been the president of the college after winning the student union elections on behalf of ABVP. Mantu did his Masters in History from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. Presently he is also pursuing PhD in Buddhist Studies from Delhi University.

He told that he wants to bring change in the society through education and clean politics. Therefore, despite being active in student union politics, he never let it affect his education. Mantu said that education is the only weapon which can change the lives of every section of the society. Regarding interest in history, Mantu said that from history itself he has learned to keep becoming better from past experiences. The purpose of its education is to make us a better society and to know about ourselves, what we were and what we are today, so that we can prepare our tomorrow according to these experiences.
