Strict punishment has been given to those who planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) on railway tracks in Bihar. The special NIA court on Saturday sentenced six people in this case to five to twelve years and imposed a fine. In fact, on September 30, 2016, a “pressure cooker IED” was planted on the railway track to explode a passenger train coming from Narkatiaganj. However, it was spotted by the local people and successfully defused by the bomb disposal squad.

The sixth accused had surrendered in 2017

When the police investigated the case, they came to know that six Naxalites had conspired together. In this, involvement of Umashankar Raut alias Umashankar Patel alias Raju Patel, Gajendra Sharma alias Gajendra Thakur, Rakesh Kumar Yadav alias Rakesh, Mukesh Kumar Yadav alias Mukesh, Motilal Paswan alias Moti and Ranjay Kumar was found. After this, NIA took over the investigation in January 2017. While three accused were initially arrested by the local police. The two were later arrested by the NIA on separate occasions. The sixth accused surrendered in February 2017.

Charge sheet was filed in July 2017

The NIA had filed the charge sheet against all the accused in July 2017. On September 24 this year, the NIA court had convicted the accused. Now on Saturday, the NIA special court announced the punishment against him. It states that the sentences awarded by the court range from five to twelve years’ imprisonment with fine.
