OPD services in government and private hospitals in Saharsa remained suspended on Wednesday due to the rape and murder case of Kolkata’s female doctor Moumita Debnath. Especially in Sadar Hospital, people had to face a lot of trouble due to the suspension of OPD services. People were seen wandering here and there.
People who reached the hospital said that they had come from far-flung rural areas. But after coming here, they were informed that the OPD was closed and there was a strike. However, since the emergency service was operational, the doctor advised some patients who needed it.
According to the information, many doctors of IMA Saharsa branch took out a candle march from Sadar Hospital premises on Tuesday late evening. They were saddened and angry about the rape and murder of female doctor Moumita Debnath in Kolkata. They demanded that the murderers be hanged. Their slogan was ‘Candle march is just a glimpse, if there is no justice then the movement is yet to come’. With the said slogan, they also demanded immediate action from the central and state government. They also said that if action is not taken soon, more violent protests will be held.
IMA President Dr. KK Jha, who was present on the spot, said that the female doctor was murdered in Kolkata while on duty. She was on emergency duty. We strongly condemn the gruesome incident with her. All the members of IMA held a candle march and demanded death penalty for the murderers.
At the same time, Dr. Gopal Sharan Singh said that we provide services with limited resources. We provide proper service to the people. In such a situation, a crime against a female doctor is a matter of concern not only for the doctors but also for the people of the society. In which direction is our society heading? A new society is being formed. We are moving towards the 21st century. We are educated people. Our country’s position is rising. There is no place for such crimes in it. Therefore, the diagnosis should be done as soon as possible and a safe environment should be provided.
Dr. Kalyani Singh said that entry of anti-social elements should be banned at the working place. In the case of female doctor Devnath also, an outsider has been accused of murder. In such a situation, the hospital premises should be freed from anti-social elements. There should also be adequate arrangements for security guards. Female doctors also need some space for rest. Since junior doctors work continuously for 24 hours to 48 hours, they should also be provided a safe place to rest in between.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that if a decision is not taken soon, there will be a fierce protest. The state government and the central government are demanded to provide a safe environment to women doctors.
