The family members of a patient who had come for treatment to the emergency ward of Purnia Medical College cum Sadar Hospital in Bihar, beat up the doctor and hospital staff. Six health workers including two doctors were injured in this incident. On receiving information about the incident, K Haat police station reached the spot and calmed down the ruckus by convincing the people. Meanwhile, a case has been registered by the doctor against the patient’s family at Haat police station. The injured include Doctor Avneesh, Doctor Hafim, health worker Prabhat Kumar, Rakesh, private guard Nand Kishore and Himanshu.

Doctor Avnish Kumar, who was on duty regarding the incident, said that on Saturday night at around 1 o’clock, husband and wife Fakruddin and Sahiba, residents of Lalganj of Maranga police station area, were admitted to the emergency ward. More than 12 people entered the emergency ward with him, due to which there was a lot of noise. Whereas many more serious patients were admitted in the ward, in whose treatment the medical staff and paramedics were facing problems. For this reason he asked the people accompanying the patient to get out.

He told that on this issue the people accompanying the patient got angry and started misbehaving. When the medical staff retaliated on this, they started abusing. When people protested against this, they started beating them. With this, vandalism started in the emergency ward.

The doctor said that immediately after this he called the police and informed them about the assault and vandalism. After receiving the information, K Haat police station reached the spot and the matter was pacified. He told that an application has been filed in Haat police station regarding assault and vandalism. Also, Purnia Indian Medical Association (AIMA) has been informed about the incident. He told that further strategy will be decided on the decision of IMA. At the same time, Purnia GMCH Superintendent Dr. Sanjay Kumar said that an application has been given in the police station regarding the matter.
