In Katihar, police have arrested a fraudster who was involved in usurping the earnings of farmers from maize, a crop grown with their hard work. When police recovered cash from the arrested accused, it turned out to be a bigger case than the famous Tanishq Jewellery robbery case of Purnia. The amount of cash recovered is Rs. 3 crore 77 lakhs, while more than Rs. 31 lakhs has been frozen in bank accounts. Currently, police have started investigating the entire case.
This is how he used to cheat farmers
In this regard, Katihar SP Jitendra Kumar said that the notes tied in bundles on the table have been recovered from the accused. He said that this amount is not the amount recovered from any robbery incident but is the amount embezzled from the crop grown by the hard work of the farmers. He said that the accused Gautam Kumar Chaudhary used to sell the crop to Haryana at very low prices in the name of buying maize from the farmers and then used to keep the money received from the sold crop with himself instead of paying it to the farmers. SP Jitendra Kumar said that this is not the first act of cheating by the arrested accused, rather he had committed embezzlement earlier also in Araria and other places apart from Katihar.
It is essential to establish a purchasing center
Katihar and other districts of Seemanchal are considered to be the hub of maize, but due to the lack of a proper system of government purchase of the crop grown by the farmers in the fields, the farmers of the area are forced to sell their crop to middlemen. In such a situation, it should be expected that the government should establish a purchase center to prevent the farmers’ crops from being sold to middlemen so that such incidents of fraud do not happen again.
