In Samastipur, a middle-aged man, fed up with the debt crunch and the harassment from moneylenders, committed suicide by hanging himself from the 1 lakh 32 thousand electricity pole passing through his farm. People passing by the farm saw the incident and informed the local police. The incident took place in Dussehra Balupar village of Mohanpur police station area. The deceased has been identified as Munni Lal Das, son of Neeras Das of the same village. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
To repay the group loan, a loan was taken from the neighbor.
Regarding the incident, the deceased’s wife Champa Devi said that many people in the family had fallen ill last year. He had taken a loan from the group for treatment. Despite many efforts, the group was not able to repay the loan. To repay the loan of the group, he took a loan of Rs 10,000 on interest from Priyanka Devi, wife of Ranjit Rai of the village. He had taken the said amount about 10 months ago. But during this time Priyanka and her husband told that after adding interest the amount has become Rs 1.5 lakh.
Panchayat had reduced the loan amount
The moneylender quoted the interest on the principal amount of Rs 10,000 as approximately Rs 1.5 lakh per month for 10 months. After this husband and wife
Got worried. In the month of February, a Panchayat was also held in the village regarding this. The Panchayat settled the matter at Rs 28 thousand. But due to lack of money she could not even give the said amount. Due to which she and her husband started being harassed in various ways by Ranjit and his wife. During this time, the moneylender’s family members also beat him up. Champa Devi’s husband became very upset due to this kind of misbehavior with him.
He left the house saying that he will come in some time.
Champa Devi told that in the evening her husband said that he would come from the farm after some time but he did not return till late evening. Then the people of the house went towards the field in search of him and saw that he was hanging from an electric chandelier with the help of a noose. He had died. The people of the village brought him down from the pole. Then informed the police.
Police is waiting for the application
Regarding the incident, Mohanpur police station chief Ajit Trivedi said that as soon as the information was received, the police team reached the spot and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. The police station incharge said that the family members of the deceased have not yet submitted the application. Further action will be taken in this matter on the basis of the application. The police is investigating the matter
