This is the second bridge accident in Bihar’s Araria within a month. The 10-year-old bridge could not withstand the strong current of the Parman river and was submerged in the river in no time. This incident happened in ward number 13 of Amhara Panchayat of Forbesganj block. It is being told that the bridge collapsed near Lakshmaniya Tola on the main rural road from Gopalpur Majhua to Amhara Haat. Due to this, connectivity of more than a dozen villages has been cut off. The villagers will have to travel through the Forbesganj-Khawaspur main road two kilometers away.

Villagers said that the length of this 10-year-old bridge is about 30 to 35 feet. The collapsed bridge had two pillars. The foundation stone of this bridge was laid by local MP Pradeep Kumar Singh at a cost of about 1.25 crores. Due to poor quality construction work, the damaged bridge could not withstand the pressure of water. Villagers said that the department officials were informed about the bridge being weak and damaged, but no official reached the spot to investigate.

More than a dozen villages are connected by rural road

Panchayat representatives said that thousands of people from rural areas have been affected due to the collapse of the bridge in Lakshmania Tola. The areas where most of the villagers have been affected include Rangdaha, Majhua, Bairba, Gopalpur, Bauchabhaag,
