Bihar: No proposal under consideration to declare monument of national importance in Bihar, government’s reply in Parliament

Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy told the Parliament that no proposal is currently under consideration to declare any cultural site in Bihar as a monument of national importance. There are 70 monuments and sites in Bihar which have been declared as monuments of national importance and are under the Archaeological Survey of India.

When the minister was asked in the Lok Sabha whether the government proposes to declare any monument in Bihar and Vaishali district as a monument of national importance, Union Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy said in a written reply that at present no such proposal is under consideration. . Reddy also shared the details of the amount spent on conservation and maintenance of centrally protected monuments and sites in Bihar during the last five years.

According to the data, Rs 7.21 crore has been spent till March 1 on the conservation and maintenance of centrally protected monuments and sites in Bihar in 2022-23. Union Minister Reddy also shared the data of revenue collected from entry fee at five centrally protected ticketed monuments in Bihar during the last three years.

In the year 2020-21 till February 28, Rs 0.87 crore, Rs 1.50 crore in 2021-22 and Rs 3.38 crore in 2022-23 were recovered from these five places. The minister also shared district wise details on the number of ASI sites in Bihar.
