Patna Metro Rail Project has expressed grief over the death of two of its employees in the accident at Ashok Rajpath. Metro has talked about conducting a high level inquiry into the incident of loco breaking. However, after this incident, people have started raising questions on the safety of the personnel working in the metro. He says that on April 16, seven people traveling in an auto died in a road accident on Ramlakhan Path in Kankarbagh police station area of Patna. At that time, Patna Metro had expressed deep condolences on the death of all the deceased and reiterated its commitment towards safety. If Patna Metro had been completely alert about safety, perhaps a major accident could have been averted on Monday midnight.
Here, after this horrific accident, Urban Development and Housing Department Minister Nitin Naveen said that information has been received about the death of two people and injuries to four people. He is undergoing treatment. Patna District Magistrate and Metro Administration have been instructed to investigate and submit the report. After this further action will be taken. He said that he is saddened by the death of both the labourers. Whatever help is provided by the department and the company will be given to them.
25 more people were working in the tunnel
Workers said that more than 25 people were working in the tunnel at the time of the accident. The workers working said that suddenly the brakes of the loco failed and due to which the incident occurred. Among those who died, helper Manoj, Vijay and Shyambabu, all three laborers, are residents of Orissa. Among those killed, one was a loco pilot while the other was a TBM operator.
This is the biggest accident ever
This is the biggest accident so far at any under-construction site of Patna Metro. Deaths have occurred before, but due to technical glitches during work in the tunnel, such an accident had not happened before. Loco pilots along with laborers were working as usual in shifts from 8 pm to 8 am. Meanwhile, the brakes of the loco used to transport goods failed. When the hydraulic loco went out of control and stopped at one place, there was panic among the workers. Two workers died within moments.
