On Monday, Gaya Court sentenced ten accused in the gang rape case. POCSO Court Special Judge Asitabh Kumar has sentenced accused Srichand Kumar, Guddu Manjhi and Ranjit Kumar to life imprisonment, while accused Prakash Ravidas, Pintu Ravidas, Bablu Ravidas, Saurav Kumar, Biku Kumar alias Rahul, Sanjay Kumar and Bhushan Ravidas have been sentenced to life imprisonment. He was sentenced to twenty years’ imprisonment. Gaya court has also imposed a financial penalty of Rs 7,000 on the accused under various sections. At the same time, the court imposed a fine of twenty years and five thousand rupees under section 376 D of the Indian Penal Code, one year and five hundred rupees under the section 323 Indian Penal Code, three years and five hundred rupees under the section 354 D Indian Penal Code, one year and five hundred rupees under the Indian Penal Code 342, and 452 Indian Penal Code. A fine of five years and Rs 500 has also been imposed. In this case, special public prosecutors Kair Sarfuddin and Kamlesh Kumar Sinha presented their side in the court on behalf of the prosecution, while four lawyers presented their side on behalf of the defense. For the first time, ten accused have been sentenced in a gang rape case in Gaya court.
Gang rape video went viral
This incident is of 25 August 2018. That day, the accused had gang-raped the victim in a village in the Mufassil police station area. The incident came to light when the video of the rape went viral. After the video went viral, the police had registered an FIR against the accused on the statement of Inspector Rakesh Kumar of the city’s Mufassil police station. In the said case, the testimony of the victim, family, doctor and four police officers was taken by the government. In the gangrape case, the testimony of 11 people was taken from the prosecution side, while the testimony of one person was taken from the defense side. The accused were identified after the video went viral. After this, a case was registered in the police station under case number 356/18.
