Neha Kakkar had told in one of her interviews that in her childhood she used to go to Jagran with her siblings and from there she started singing. At first she used to say only Jai Mata Di but gradually she started singing bhajans. Neha had also told that later her father stopped singing and also opened a samosa shop for some time. According to Neha, her childhood was spent in a lot of poverty but she believed that one day Durga Maa will make everything right.
Time passed and Neha’s inclination grew towards singing. In 2005, Neha Kakkar auditioned as a contestant in ‘Indian Idol Season 2’ in Delhi. Here she was selected and got the first chance to go to Mumbai. In Mumbai, Neha also got a chance to sing in one or two episodes but then she got rejected.

Neha’s brother started working as a composer in Mumbai and started working with small bands. After this the second hit song was ‘Aaj Blue Hai Pani-Pani’ in which she sang with Honey Singh.
