BJP Ashok Chavan was afraid of central agencies investigation met Congress top leaders Sonia Gandhi Mallikarjun Kharge last week

Ashok Chavan: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has joined BJP on Tuesday (February 13) after saying goodbye to Congress. On Monday (February 12), he had announced his resignation from the party and sent his resignation to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar. Meanwhile, Times of India has claimed in one of its reports that one of the reasons for leaving Congress was that Ashok Chavan was afraid of notice from central agencies. He also met Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.

Was there fear of investigation by central agencies?
The report quoted sources as saying that Chavan was in fear for a long time that he might have to face investigation by central agencies. However, nothing has been mentioned about the circumstances in which he was afraid. It has also been claimed in the report that he was planning to say goodbye to the Congress Party for a long time. Before leaving the post in the party, Ashok Chavan had also met Sonia Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge. Only last week, Ashok had met these two top leaders and also talked about leaving the party.

Congress has accused of misuse of agencies
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a fresh summons to National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah for questioning. After this, Congress has alleged “misuse of agencies against the opposition”. Many other leaders including Congress MLAs from Madhya Pradesh have claimed that they have received income tax notices.

‘The central leadership knows very well’

After joining BJP, Ashok Chavan said, ‘It was not easy for me to take the decision to leave the Congress party. This is not a decision taken in a day. It is true that the Congress Party has given me a lot. Then it cannot be denied that as long as I was in the party, I also did a lot for the party. The central leadership of Congress knows very well what I have done for the party.
