Waqf Board Bill Amendment: The political temperature is high on the Waqf Amendment Bill presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday (8 August). While BJP leaders are arguing in favor of it by talking about equality, the opposition leaders are opposing it by talking about injustice. There was a lot of uproar in the Lok Sabha during the presentation of the bill.
Former Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani has praised the Modi government on the Waqf Amendment Bill. At the same time, she fiercely targeted the opposition parties including the Congress. Smriti Irani said, âThis bill was presented with great expectations and Narendra Modi lived up to the expectations. The opposition was stunned that the government answered all the questions.â
Strong attack on the opposition
Smriti Irani said, âThe opposition says that this bill is against the âRight to Equalityâ, but how is talking within the law against it. Under this law, everyone will have the right to go to the court, revenue officer and through this women have been empowered.â
âThose who have rights donât even know itâ
He said, âUnder this law, the state government, district officials and the court have been given powers. After all, if any land related issue comes up, only the revenue officer can correct it. Many cases of Waqf Board have come up in which the Mutawalli himself is selling mosques, dargahs and graveyards and those who have the rights are not even aware of it.
She said, âIn one board of the country, the work of divorce, khula and marriage is also done and it is clearly written in their website. Many women are saying that their khula has been issued and they do not even know about it. The Wakf Board has declared the land of Dawoodi Bohra community, Muslim Ahmadiya community as Wakf Board and refused to accept them as Muslims, they are wandering from door to door. After all, someone will have to take responsibility.â
Response to oppositionâs allegations
Responding to the oppositionâs allegations, Smriti Irani said, âOwaisi should explain how giving respect to Muslim women is spreading hatred. During the rule of Congress, the entire Karol Bagh and Dariyabad were given to the Waqf Board. The municipal party office of Surat was declared a Waqf property.â
He said, âTill now the person suffering from Waqf did not have the right to go anywhere, I Narendra Modi I thank the Prime Minister that through this law everyone will have the right to equality. Where does this law say about keeping Hindus? No minister of the government or any party person will be kept. How is it wrong to keep former judges, former officers?â She said, âIf the decision to send JPC is also of the government, then how did the opposition win?â
