14 people died in Asha Kiran Shelter Home in Rohini area of the capital Delhi. The Delhi government has taken immediate action on the matter and has also sought a report within 48 hours. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and other leaders have reacted in this matter.
BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala said, ’27 deaths have occurred here in the last few months. The reason for this seems to be dirty water, infection, tuberculosis and pneumonia. Many such reports are running in the media. The question is whose negligence is this? This is the criminal negligence of the AAP government, because it is their job to run this shelter home. This means that there is corruption as well as criminal negligence, due to which 27 people lost their lives.’ Shahzad Poonawala said, ‘I have sent a team there. I think NHRC should also take cognizance of this matter.’
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, ‘It is difficult to breathe in Delhi, it is difficult to read the news… Mentally deranged people are kept in Asha Kiran. It has been learnt that children are not given proper food. If children fall ill there, they do not get treatment. Aam Aadmi Party has no moral right to remain in its position. Such news comes every day… Aam Aadmi Party does not do what it says? The Aam Aadmi Party government has brought Delhi to a very sad situation. It is very important to remove such people from their posts to save Delhi.’
Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal said, ‘There have been 13 deaths in the Delhi government-run Asha Kiran Ashray Griha in the last 20 days. The reasons are not yet known…I had inspected the situation when I was in DCW. The situation here is very bad, as there is neither proper staff nor proper doctors. We made a report at that time and submitted it to the Delhi government, but no action was taken at that time. I demand that action be taken in this matter and an FIR be registered…I will raise this issue in Parliament.’
