Blinkit will focus on dark stores to cater more customers in top 8 cities

Blinkit: Zomato’s subsidiary Blinkit wants to leave its parent company behind as soon as possible. For this, Blinkit has prepared a plan to focus on the dark store. The company will try to reach as many customers as possible through these dark stores present in 8 big cities of the country. If quick commerce platform Blinkit succeeds in its plan, its gross order value may jump by about 4 times.

The target is to create 1000 dark stores in a year

According to Zomato, Blinkit will increase its focus in top 8 cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Dark stores are going to play an important role in these. Blinkit has opened 75 new dark stores in the January-March quarter. Of these, 80 percent are in these big cities. Now the company has 526 dark stores across the country. The company wants to increase the number of these stores to 1000 in the coming year.

Know what is dark store

A dark store is a retail or warehouse that is used only for online shopping. Customers cannot buy directly from these stores. To make these, an already existing retail store is used. These include clothing stores, household goods and grocery stores. These are spread over approximately 2500 to 3000 square feet.

Blinkit’s gross order value doubled

Blinkit’s gross order value in the fourth quarter was Rs 4027 crore. It has doubled on an annual basis. Also, there has been a jump of 14 percent on the basis of the third quarter. The company said that apart from these top 8 cities, we will gradually move forward in other places. The company’s dark stores present in small cities are also performing better. Recently, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal had admitted that in the coming times, Blinkit’s business will be bigger than Zomato. However, he refused to give information as to when this would happen.
