Archaeologist Hugh Willmott of Sheffield University said, this cup was found in an ordinary grave, but its nature was so unique, which made us think. He has written, this bowl was found in a cemetery along with 49 other graves in 2018. It was absolutely fine, there was no damage. This bowl was placed on the girl’s head. Two plain brooches were also given. A brooch is a type of pin.

Where did this bowl come from?
Archaeologist told that this bowl is 2.2 inches long. 280 ml water can be filled in it. It is made from copper and alloys. Moon and heart shaped structures are made in it. Then the enamel has been filled with red, aquamarine and dark blue violet colors. The style of the bowl suggests that it might have been imported from France or Britain during the Roman period.

Wilmot said, I am sure that the bowl was designed as a drinking vessel. But the Romans would drink wine in it. However, when it was chosen to be placed in the grave, its purpose must have been something else. To understand why this cup of wine was buried with the girl, Wilmot and his colleagues analyzed its organic remains. What came to light next was even more surprising. A large amount of lipid was found in it, which was probably made from pig fat. Wilmot said that she might have been buried with this woman because perhaps she used to treat people. She must have been using it for the same.
