Boxer Parveen Hooda suspended by WADA: Boxer Parveen Hooda, who won the bronze medal in the World Championship, may have her dream of Paris Olympics 2024 shattered. He has been suspended by the World Anti-Doping Agency for not providing location information thrice within 12 months. Due to which now India may lose one quota from boxer quota in Olympics 2024.
What is the whole matter?
Parveen, who won the Olympic quota in the women’s 57 kg weight category in the Asian Games last year, failed to provide information about her location as per WADA rules from April 2022 to March 2023. Parveen’s coach Sudhir Hooda told PTI, “WADA has suspended her for one and a half years. This suspension has started from this month and will continue till November 2025.”
What does the rule say?
Players included in WADA’s Registered Testing Pool (RTP) are required to provide complete addresses of overnight stays, complete addresses of places of training, work or other regular activities and the timing of each activity. Also, RTP players have to give time of 60 minutes a day in every quarter, during which they should be available for dope test.
According to WADA rules, “Not reporting location three times within 12 months is considered an anti-doping rule violation. This usually results in a 2-year ban, although this can be reduced to 1 year depending on your error.” “Can also be done.”
This is the argument of Parveen Hooda’s lawyer
Advocate Vidushpat Singhania, who is handling Parveen’s case, says that he is in touch with the International Testing Agency (ITA) and is trying to remove or reduce the punishment. Singhania said- “We are in touch with many parties including ITA and WADA Ombudsman. We are trying our best for no punishment or lesser punishment.”
Vidushpat Singhania further said- “We want them to withdraw the notice of not giving location information, if this happens then there will be no punishment. We are trying to finalize it as soon as possible because of the Olympic quota place. Are.”
