Ingredients required to make Rava Upma

Rava (semolina) โ€“ 1 cup
Chana dal โ€“ 1 tsp
Urad Dal โ€“ 1 tsp
Chopped onion โ€“ 1
Chopped Tomato โ€“ 1
Grated ginger โ€“ 1/2 tsp
Chopped carrots โ€“ 3 tbsp
Green peas โ€“ 2 tbsp
Chopped capsicum โ€“ 3 tbsp
Fried cashew โ€“ 7-8
Curry leaves โ€“ 1/4 cup
Asafoetida โ€“ 1 pinch
Green chili โ€“ 2
Green coriander leaves โ€“ 2-3 tbsp
Lemon โ€“ 1/2
Desi ghee โ€“ 1 tbsp
Oil โ€“ 2 tbsp
salt โ€“ as per taste

How to make Rava Upma

To make Rava Upma, first finely chop onion, tomato, green chili, carrot, capsicum and green coriander leaves. After this, put 1 tablespoon of ghee in a thick bottom pan and heat it. When the ghee melts, add rava to it and fry it for 4-5 minutes. Rava will be cooked till it turns brown. Keep in mind that keep stirring the semolina with a spoon. When the semolina is well roasted, take it out in a plate. Now add 2 tbsp oil to the pan and heat it on medium flame. When the oil becomes hot, then mustard seeds will crackle in it. After this add asafoetida, curry leaves, urad dal and chana dal and fry them all together. Fry these lentils till they turn light brown in colour. Now add chopped onions, green chillies and grated ginger to it and mix. Fry it till the onion turns light pink.

Now put chopped carrots, peas, capsicum and tomatoes in this mixture and keep it to cook. Now put about two cups of water in it and leave it to cook for 3-4 minutes. When the water starts boiling in the pan, add roasted semolina and squeeze half a lemon in it. Now while stirring it, cook it for about 2-3 minutes.

After the fixed time, turn off the gas and leave the upma like this for 10 minutes so that it can set. After this, do not forget to garnish with green coriander. After this it can be served in a plate.
