Ingredients to make Rava Upma
Rava (semolina) – 1 cup
Chana dal – 1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Chana dal – 1 tsp
Onion chopped – 1
Tomato chopped – 1
Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp
Carrot chopped – 3 tbsp
Green peas – 2 tbsp
Chopped capsicum – 3 tbsp
Fried cashew – 7-8
Curry leaves – 1/4 cup
Asafoetida – 1 pinch
Green chili – 2
Green coriander leaves – 2-3 tbsp
Lemon – 1/2
Desi ghee – 1 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp
salt – as per taste

How to make Rava Upma
To make Rava Upma, first cut finely pieces of onion, tomato, green chili, carrot, capsicum and green coriander leaves. Now put 1 tbsp ghee in a thick bottom pan and heat it. After melting the ghee, add rava to it and fry for some time. It will take 3-4 minutes for the rava (semolina) to turn light brown. During this, keep stirring the semolina with the help of a spoon. After roasting semolina, take it out in a plate.
Now put 2 tbsp oil in the pan and heat it on medium flame. After the oil is hot, add mustard seeds to it. When the mustard starts crackling, add asafoetida, curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal and fry them all. Fry them till the color of the dal turns light brown. After this add chopped onion, green chili and grated ginger and mix it. Fry the onion till it turns light pink.

Then put chopped carrots, peas, capsicum and tomatoes in this mixture and let it cook. Cook these ingredients well for 2-3 minutes and then put one and a half cup of water in the mixture and leave it to boil. When the water starts boiling, put roasted semolina in it and squeeze half a lemon over it. Mix the semolina well with the help of a spoon and cook for 2 minutes while stirring.

After this, cover the pan and let the Rava Upma cook on low flame for 3 to 4 minutes. During this, keep stirring the upma with a spoon in between. After this, turn off the gas and leave the upma like this for 10 minutes so that it can set. Your tasty rava upma is ready. Garnish it with green coriander leaves and serve it in breakfast.
