BSNL is planning to bring VRS for its employees soon 19k Jobs wil be on Stake


VRS: The call for VRS i.e. Voluntary Retirement Service is again being heard in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a company under the Telecom Department of the country. If this happens, then this will be the second time when the employees in the company will be reduced through VRS. It has been learned that the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has decided to extend the offer of VRS.

According to the report of Economic Times, this news has come to light. It has been told that the government company BSNL is going to reduce 35 percent of its total workforce. Under this, a total of 18,000 to 19,000 employees of the company can be reduced so that the balance sheet of the company can be strengthened. The government official has also said that BSNL needs Rs 15,000 crore from the Finance Ministry to complete the process of this VRS and to implement this scheme.

Company trying to reduce expenditure on employees

At present, a total of Rs 7500 crore is being spent by BSNL to pay salaries to its employees and this is 38 percent of the total revenue. The company wants to reduce this amount to a total expenditure of Rs 5000 crore. Actually, the company is going to submit a proposal to the Communication Ministry to reduce its staff, which will be sent to the Cabinet for approval after getting the approval of the Finance Ministry.

The company did not give any official statement

However, a senior official of the company has said that currently internal discussions are going on on BSNL’s VRS plan and no concrete decision has been taken yet. At present, no official answer has been given by BSNL to the questions asked to the company in this regard. However, it is also reported that last Monday the Board of BSNL has approved the VRS program to reduce the wage bill of its employees.

Know company revenue and number of employees

BSNL’s revenue in FY 2024 was Rs 21,302 crore, which looks slightly better than its last year’s revenue. Talking about the employees of this company, there are more than 30,000 non-executives and 25,000 executives in BSNL.
