Buxar, In the district, Littiya sweet prepared from Chhena is so famous for its specialty that it is in demand not only in the country but also in foreign countries. The sweet shop of Dharmendra Yadav, a resident of Akalupur village, is located near the eastern gate of Dumraon railway station. Where apart from littiya sweets, tea, biscuits and snacks are also sold.
Shopkeeper Dharmendra Yadav says that in the year 2001, for the first time, Littiya sweets shop was started at the western gate of the local railway station. The business of this sweet went well. After which a new shop was opened in the year 2012 at the eastern gate of the station.
400 rupees per kg
Dharmendra says that his brothers Suresh Yadav and Umesh Yadav look after the work of selling it at the old shop. While they prepare the sweets themselves and make them available at both the shops. He told that 20 kg of sweets are prepared at one go in a big pan. For this, 26 kg chhena and 5 kg sugar and water are required. He told that it is cooked continuously for three hours on a wooden flame. Nothing is added to it except sugar and water. Since, the color of the sweet turns red when it is cooked continuously on the stove for three hours. He told that it costs Rs 350 to prepare one kg of sweets, while it is sold at the rate of Rs 400 per kg.
Profit is up to 30 thousand in a month
Shopkeeper Dharmendra told that one piece of this sweet weighs 100 grams. Many such customers also come who buy only one piece to eat, then 40 rupees are taken from them. Every day 25 kg of littiya sweets are sold at his shop. At the same time, it is mostly sold during the month of Sawan and Navratri. This is because this sweet is made from pure chhena without any adulteration, which is eaten by the devotees during the fast. He told that the sale of sweets doubles in these seasons, due to which the income also doubles. He told that after deducting all the expenses, Littiya sweets make a profit of 30 thousand in a month. Due to which the family is fed.
Littia sweets are in high demand in Gulf countries.
Dharmendra told that in popular language it is called littiya sweet, but it has many other names as well. People also know it by the names like Dharamadhas, Belgrami, Khurma, Tikia, Kachkachwa etc. He told that the demand of this sweet is in countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar etc. Bihari people living in this country ask for it, they told that on receiving the order, it is packed in cartons and sent.
