CAA Rules In India: The Union Home Ministry, trying to allay the apprehensions of a section of Indian Muslims and students regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), on Tuesday (March 12) Issued a statement.
The Home Ministry said in the statement that Indian Muslims do not need to worry about CAA. The ministry said that CAA has nothing to do with Indian Muslims and they have the same rights as their counterpart Hindu Indian citizens.
The Home Ministry made it clear that after CAA, no Indian citizen will be asked to produce any document to prove his citizenship.
Did the Home Ministry say anything?
The Home Ministry said in a statement, “Indian Muslims need not worry because there is no provision in this law affecting their citizenship.” The citizenship law has nothing to do with the current 18 crore Indian Muslims, who have the same rights as their counterpart Hindu Indian citizens.’’
The Center on Monday notified the Citizenship (Amendment) Act to provide faster citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014.
CAA protects the image of Islam from being tarnished in the name of atrocities – Home Ministry
The Home Ministry said in its statement, “Due to the atrocities being committed on minorities in those three Muslim countries, the image of Islam has been badly tarnished in the entire world. However, Islam, being a peaceful religion, never promotes hatred, violence, persecution on religious grounds. The statement said that this law protects the image of Islam from being tarnished in the name of atrocities.
‘The concern of Muslims, students and a section of people is unjustified’
Explaining the need for the law, the ministry said that India has no agreement with Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh to deport migrants to these countries. The statement said, “This citizenship law will prevent the deportation of illegal immigrants.” Is not related. Therefore, the concern of a section of people, including Muslims and students, that the CAA is against Muslim minorities is unjustified.”
The ministry said that under Section 6 of the Citizenship Act, which deals with citizenship by naturalization, there is no bar on Muslims from anywhere in the world acquiring Indian citizenship.
The eligibility period for applying for citizenship was made five years
The statement said that without curtailing the rights, freedoms and opportunities that Indian Muslims have enjoyed since independence, like Indian citizens of other religions, the CAA will end the suffering of persecution of people who came to India on or before December 31, 2014. With the aim of reducing and showing generous behavior towards them, the eligibility period for applying for citizenship has been reduced from 11 to five years.
Home Ministry told why CAA was needed
Emphasizing the rationale of bringing CAA, the Ministry said that in order to show sympathy towards the oppressed minorities of those three countries, this law gives them an opportunity to obtain Indian citizenship for their happy and prosperous future as per the liberal culture of India. The statement said, “This law was needed to bring necessary changes in the citizenship system and to control illegal immigrants.”
‘The law does not stop Muslims from applying for citizenship’
The ministry also clarified that the law does not prevent any Muslim facing persecution in those three Islamic countries from applying for Indian citizenship under existing laws for practicing their ways of Islam.
