The problems faced by people due to continuously increasing fraud and spam calls are now going to be curbed. Telecom regulator TRAI has taken cognizance of the problems of the people. The regulator has made a new proposal in this regard. It is proposed that with every call the real name of the caller should also be revealed.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI gave this information late evening on Friday. It has been named Introduction of Calling Name Presentation (CNAP). TRAI has given its suggestions regarding CNAP service in the Indian telecom network. The regulator said that it has put forward suggestions in this regard after seeking permission from the Department of Telecommunications. The Department of Telecommunications had asked TRAI to give suggestions regarding revealing the real identity of the caller. Suggestions were invited in , after which the regulator released a consultation paper regarding CNAP services in November 2022 and invited comments from all concerned parties. After receiving comments in favor and against, an open discussion was held in March last year in this regard. After all these processes, TRAI has now prepared its suggestions.
This will be the feature of Caller ID
TRAI suggests that the feature of Caller ID should be available by default in domestic telecommunication networks. Needed. This means that with every call the true identity of the caller must be disclosed. According to TRAI, this can be a supplementary service, which can be made available to customers on request. If the proposals are implemented then soon the real name of the caller will be visible on your mobile along with the caller’s number. While taking the said number, the name which will be there in the ID given will also appear along with the number.
Common people will get this benefit
With the launch of TRAI’s default caller ID service. While on one hand some companies may suffer market losses, on the other hand customers may get great relief. Currently, companies like Truecaller provide caller ID service, but even in that, customers are not able to know the real name of the caller. In the increasingly digital economy, problems like fraud through calls, people receiving spam and promotional calls from new numbers throughout the day are becoming increasingly serious. Despite continuous proposals from the regulator, it has not been possible to curb fraud or spam calls. With the facility of Caller ID, people are expected to get relief from these problems to a great extent.
