Canada Anti Immigration Sentiments Rising Indian Community Sikh People On Target Justin Trudeau

Anti-immigration sentiments: Canadians are feeling insecure due to the increasing number of immigrants in Canada. New immigrants in Canada include people from Indian and especially Sikh communities. According to a survey conducted by the Leger Agency for the Association of Canadian Studies, 60 per cent of people feel that the number of immigrants in Canada has increased too much.

The number of immigrants in Canada has increased by 10 percent from February to July. What is important is that Indians and Sikhs are facing increasing anti-immigration sentiment in Canada. In March 2019, the number of people settling in Canada from outside was 35 percent.

What do the figures say?

In March 2019, about 49 percent of Canadians believed that the right number of people were coming and settling in their country. However, now the number of people who consider this decision to be correct has decreased to 28 percent.

Attacks on Sikhs

Due to increasing immigration in Canada, reports of violence are coming to the fore. Last month, reports of racist physical attacks came to the fore in the Canadian state of Ontario. Violence was also reported in the city of Peterborough, where four youths beat up a Sikh community member, spat on him and pulled off his turban. The Canadian police had described this incident as a hate crime against immigrants.

Why is the Trudeau government failing?

The policies of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government are also considered to be a major reason behind the growing hatred against Sikhs and immigrants in Canada. According to many media reports, the Trudeau government has been unable to provide basic amenities for the livelihood of the people.

Why is there opposition after all?

Shinder Purewal, a professor of political science at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in British Columbia, has spoken on this issue. He said that earlier when people came from outside and settled in Canada, Canadian citizens felt that their arrival was putting their jobs at risk. However, now the situation has changed. Now that people coming from outside are bringing billions of dollars with them, Canadian citizens have started fearing that their presence has caused rising inflation.
