However, the Indian government has already lodged a formal diplomatic complaint in this regard with the country’s foreign ministry, Global Affairs Canada. India has repeatedly raised the issue of space being given to separatists, terrorists and anti-India elements in Canada before the Trudeau government.
Indo-Canadian MP Chandra Arya condemned the use of posters in the rally
At the same time, Chandra Arya, MP from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s party, said that Khalistani supporters in Vancouver brought posters of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s bullet-riddled body, in which her killer bodyguards are holding guns. Where Khalistani supporters are again trying to create fear of violence among Hindu-Canadians.
He said that “This is a continuation of threats, including a similar procession in Brampton a few years ago and a few months ago when (Gurpatwant Singh) Pannu of Sikh for Justice asked Hindus to go back to India.” Meanwhile, MP Arya has asked the law enforcement agencies in Canada to take immediate action.
Such a tableau was taken out in Canada last year
This is not the first time that a tableau depicting violence against a former prime minister has been shown in Canada. In June 2023, a tableau depicting the assassination of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shown during the Martyrdom Day parade in the Greater Toronto Area. Relations between India and Canada have also deteriorated due to the free hand given to Khalistani elements.
Canada has also alleged that India was responsible for the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was declared a terrorist, but India has termed this claim as ‘baseless’ and said that Canadian officials could not produce evidence in support of their claim.
