His mother Nicola King was breastfeeding her youngest child when she heard a loud bang and went downstairs to see what had happened. The 36-year-old was shocked to see her son having a seizure on the kitchen floor and then going into cardiac arrest.
His eldest son Caden called 999 while Nicola performed CPR while waiting for the ambulance. Cesar was rushed to hospital where he went into a coma after suffering a heart attack. He was treated there for two days.
Thankfully the boy recovered and is now back home, but mum-of-four Nicola has shared photos of him receiving CPR and in intensive care to warn others about the dangers of chroming.
Smelling toxic chemicals can be dangerous
The practice involves sniffing toxic chemicals such as paint, solvents, aerosol cans, cleaning products or petrol to get a temporary ‘high’. It can cause people to experience slurred speech, dizziness, hallucinations, nausea and disorientation, but it can also lead to heart attacks or suffocation.
Earlier this year, Tommy-Lee Gracie Billington, 11, from Lancashire, died of a suspected heart attack after she and her friends tried to go crazy at a sleepover. In 2023, Esra Haynes, from Melbourne, Australia, died under similar circumstances after snorting deodorant at a sleepover, reports the Mirror.
Another child, Tegan Solomon, 12, from Kent, was rushed to hospital with an increased heart rate and vomiting for days after trying the trend at a sleepover. Kola recalled the moment she heard her son fall. ‘I had just breastfed my baby and was going to sleep when I heard a really loud bang. I thought one of the children had done something.
