Maurya told the anti-Modi campaign
BJP leader Keshav Maurya retaliated on this demand of SP. SP again forward vs backward on agenda

Akhilesh Yadav had promised that a caste survey would be conducted within three months after coming to the government. However, Akhilesh could not form the government and the SP had put the matter in cold storage.
The matter of caste census once again came into limelight when Swami Prasad Maurya gave a controversial statement regarding Ramcharitmanas. Akhilesh Yadav did not stop Swami Prasad Maurya. Rather, within a few days, he was made the National General Secretary, giving him a bigger position in the Executive Committee. Along with this, Akhilesh Yadav rekindled the demand for caste census.

Regarding this demand of SP, BJP’s strategy is to wait and watch. Quoting an unnamed BJP leader, the Express report said that the government may order a caste census if needed. The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) has been an ally of both the BJP and the SP in the state. He says the SP and the BJP were not interested in the caste census because they feared the results would affect their OBC vote bank. Party’s Principal General Secretary Arvind Rajbhar says that this is the reason why the BJP is currently avoiding the caste census and when the SP was in power, it did not order the census.
