Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has rejected AAP’s request to appoint Raghav Chadha as the interim leader of the party in the Upper House. At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party sources say that Rajya Sabha officials have suggested some improvements in the letter sent to the Chairman to nominate Chadha as the interim leader. According to Parliament sources, in a letter to Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Dhankhar said, ‘This aspect is subject to the Leaders of Recognized Parties and Groups in Parliament and Chief Whips (Facilities) Act 1998 and the rules made thereunder. Is. The request is not being accepted due to not being in accordance with applicable legal regulations.
Arvind Kejriwal had recommended Dhankhar to appoint Chadha as the interim leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha, as floor leader Sanjay Singh was in judicial custody and unable to attend the Parliament session. Dhankhar turned down Kejriwal’s request citing rules. At the same time, Sanjay Singh will remain the leader of AAP in Rajya Sabha. However, Singh’s tenure as Rajya Sabha member ends on January 27. There is no provision under the Leaders and Chief Whips of Recognized Parties and Groups in Parliament (Facilities) Act, which Dhankhar mentioned in his letter to Kejriwal.
In a letter to Dhankhar on December 14, Kejriwal had written, ‘I would like to propose the name of Raghav Chadha as the interim party leader in the Rajya Sabha, until further changes are considered necessary. We request that this change be allowed.
