It is often said during periods that one should not keep using the same pad for too long. This increases the risk of cancer. It is also often said that the pad should be changed at an interval of 4-6 hours. But till now there is no evidence as to after how many hours should the pad be changed?
Some doctors and researchers say that after how much time should you change the pad, it completely depends on how much is your period flow? To know the correct answer to this, Dr. Saroj Yadav of ‘Akash Health Care’ had a special conversation with ABP Live Hindi. He told that women who have heavy bleeding need to change pads frequently. On the other hand, if someone has less bleeding, then the pad is changed after a long interval.
What did the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists say?
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends changing pads at least every 4 to 8 hours. But this is a very normal limit. How often you change your pad depends entirely on the blood flow. Also, the quality of the pad you use. Because if good quality pads are used, then it is possible that you may not have to change them immediately but only after a long gap.
Why is it necessary to change the pad after a gap?
The pad should be changed before it gets full. When you go to the bathroom, you should check the pad once. If you feel wet and uncomfortable, you should change the pad.
If you feel that blood is leaking from the pad or you are feeling discomfort, then you should change the pad without wasting time.
If you want to avoid excessive sweating and bacteria, you should change the pad. If you do not change the pad for hours, it may start smelling bad. If you want to avoid infection caused by pads, you should check the pad from time to time and change it.
How many pads should you use a day?
However, there is no correct answer yet as to how many pads need to be changed in a day. If the pad is thick then it can easily last for 4-5 hours. At the same time, a thick pad is enough for 7 hours of good sleep at night. People often use regular, maxi super, thin-ultra thin, slender, overnight pads.
