There is a complete ban on liquor in Bihar. But despite this, the liquor traders are violating the liquor ban rules by bringing large consignments of liquor from UP, Haryana or Punjab to Bihar. However, the Bihar Police or the Excise Department team conducts intensive investigation campaigns and arrests the liquor traders and also succeeds in seizing the consignment of liquor.
Some cases also come up in which the court also pronounces punishment. A similar case has come from the Civil Court, Chhapra. District and Sessions Judge cum Special Judge II of the Excise Department, Atul Veer Singh, found Sanjeev Kumar Singh, a resident of Dudhaila village of Sonpur police station area, guilty under Section 30 (a) of the Excise Act in Excise Trial Case No. 2076/22 of Sonpur Police Station Case No. 185/17 and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment and an additional one year of imprisonment for not paying a fine of Rs. 1 lakh.
On behalf of the prosecution, senior advocate cum special public prosecutor of Chhapra Civil Court Sarvjit Ojha and his assistants Kriti and Anil Kumar Pandey and on behalf of the defence Manoj Kumar Singh presented their side in the court. However, the chargesheet was submitted in the court by the investigator on 15 August 2017, after which a total of four witnesses were made to testify in the court on behalf of the prosecution.
It is known that the informant of the case and Sub Inspector of Sonpur Police Station Manoj Kumar Singh had received secret information. The accused keeps foreign liquor in his house and trades it. On the basis of secret information, on 16 May 2017, the informant Manoj Kumar Singh along with the police force raided the house of the accused and recovered about 59 liters of foreign liquor of various companies.
