chennai super kings to retain ms dhoni as uncapped player ipl 2025 mega auction csk bcci

CSK to Retain MS Dhoni as Uncapped Player IPL 2025: Just a few weeks ago, BCCI had held a meeting with IPL team owners, in which there was a demand to bring back the uncapped player rule. Later it was revealed that this demand was not from CSK but the BCCI officials themselves had raised the issue of bringing back the uncapped player rule. Now according to ESPN Cricinfo, BCCI has decided to bring back this rule.

According to this report, BCCI has not only decided to bring back the uncapped player rule but in IPL 2025, every franchise will have to keep an uncapped player in its team. That means, the rumors of MS Dhoni being kept in the list of uncapped players seem to be proving true.

What is the uncapped player rule?

That player comes in the list of uncapped players, who has been retired for five years or more. Talking about MS Dhoni, he said goodbye to cricket on 15th August in the year 2019. More than 5 years have passed since he retired, so as per the rules, if Dhoni comes in the auction, he will be included in the list of uncapped players.

MS Dhoni received Rs 12 crore for playing in IPL 2024, but the maximum salary of an uncapped player is Rs 4 crore. This means that on becoming an uncapped player, Dhoni’s salary will be reduced by 3 times. Let us remind you that last year Dhoni left the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings and handed over the command of the team to Rituraj Gaikwad. Under the captaincy of Gaikwad, CSK stood fifth in the points table last year.
