Story of Chhath Puja (Chhath Puja 2024 Vrat Katha)
The mythological story of Chhath Puja is related to King Priyavrat. According to the story, the king and his wife were very sad because they did not have any children. Both the king and his wife went to Maharishi Kashyap to wish to have a child. Then Maharishi performed the yagya and the king’s wife became pregnant. She gave birth to a son after completion of 9 months. But he was born dead, after which the king and his wife became more unhappy than before.
Saddened, King Priyavrat tried to commit suicide in the crematorium itself to sacrifice his life along with that of his dead son. Then a goddess appeared there. The goddess said, I am Devasena, daughter of Brahma and I am Goddess Shashthi, born from the sixth part of the basic nature of creation.
If you worship me and inspire other people to do the same, I will give you the gem of a son. The king followed the advice of the goddess and worshiped Goddess Shashthi by observing a fast on the Shashthi date of Kartik Shukla. After which the king got a son. It is believed that Chhath Puja started from this time onwards.
