Chief Of Army Staff: Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will take command of the Indian Army, will become Army Chief on June 30


Upendra Dwivedi: The central government on Tuesday (11 June) announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi as the next Army Chief. Lieutenant Upendra Dwivedi has previously served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff. His tenure will begin from 30 June 2024.

According to a statement, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will take over on June 30, while the current Army Chief General Manoj C Pandey will leave his post on the same day. Born on 1 July 1964, Upendra Dwivedi was commissioned in the Army Infantry (Jammu and Kashmir Rifles) in December 1984.

The statement said, “During his long and distinguished service of nearly 40 years, he has served in various command, staff, instructional and overseas appointments. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi’s command appointments include command of a Regiment (18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles), Brigade (26 Sector Assam Rifles), DIG, Assam Rifles (East) and 9 Corps.

Education of Upendra Dwivedi

Actually, Upendra Dwivedi received his initial education from Sainik School, Rewa. After this, he studied from National Defense College and US Army War College. He has also done courses from DSSC Wellington and Army War College Mhow. Dwivedi was awarded ‘Distinguished Fellow’ in the prestigious NDC equivalent course at USAWC, Carlisle, America. He also has M-Phil in Defense and Management Studies and two master’s degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science.

Manoj Pandey got extension in service

Let us tell you that in May this year, the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet had given extension to the outgoing Army Chief General Manoj Pandey. His service extension was extended for one month. General Manoj Pandey was to retire on 31 May, but his tenure was extended till 30 June. Generally, the tenure of Army Chiefs is till the age of 62 or three years earlier.
