Scoliophage : Most children are reluctant to go to school. Some children make excuses of stomach ache and some insist on sitting down because they have headache. This is a normal habit in childhood. Sometimes it is okay but if a child is doing this every day or often then it should be taken seriously because fear of going to school can be a kind of psychological disorder or phobia.
In medical science, it is called ‘Scolionophobia’. This creates fear in the child’s mind about going to school. In this, children also get physically ill and get cured on their own after the school time is over. If your child’s behavior is also like this, then be careful.
How dangerous is scoleonophobia?
When a child develops a fear of going to school, its effects can last for a long time, both physically and mentally. Not every child feels like going to school sometimes, but children with scolionophobia often do, this thought keeps running in their mind, which can make them feel insecure and anxious. Due to this, they develop physical illness. Doctors say that such problems are more common in children whose parents are overprotective.
What are the problems in scoleonophobia
Statistics show that about 2-5% of children are affected by school phobia. One in every 20 children may have this problem. This problem is common in young children between 5 and 8 years of age. In many children, the initial symptoms of scoleonophobia can be diarrhea, headache, nausea and vomiting, stomachache, tremors. Some children stick to their parents and do not leave them. Some may have fear of darkness, nightmares. If such problems persist for a long time, then there is a need to be alert.
Cause of Scolionophobia
There is no clear reason for this. Some things happening at home or school can cause this phobia in them. Fear of violence at home, being homeless, not getting full attention from parents, changes in the family, divorce or death of someone, threats at school, teasing from other children, threat of beating, fear of a teacher, if the child has dyslexia i.e. difficulty in reading or dyscalculia i.e. difficulty in understanding maths then children can have scoleonophobia.
What is the treatment for scoleonophobia
If children suffer from scoleonophobia, they should be taken to a psychiatrist.
Parents should work to remove the fear from the minds of children.
Teachers should also help children in school.
If the symptoms are severe then the doctor can give treatment, therapy or medicines to the child.
Bring changes in the habits of children.
