US Warns China Over Russia-Ukraine War: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned China against its continued ‘malign support’ of Russia in its war against Ukraine, saying its bilateral relations with the US There will be ‘serious effects’ on the relationship. He also condemned the incident of spy balloons allegedly sent by China to America and said that ‘this should never happen again’.

According to the US State Department, Blinken and Wang Yi, the senior-most foreign policy official of the Chinese Communist Party, held talks in Munich on Saturday (February 18) for about an hour. The ministry said that both the leaders had gone there to participate in the International Security Conference.

The top diplomats of the two countries met face-to-face for the first time since a Chinese spy balloon was shot down over the US border a fortnight ago. Blinken said in an interview with ‘CBS News’, “I made it clear to them that sending a surveillance balloon from China to US territory is a violation of our sovereignty, international law and it should not happen again.”

His spokesman Ned Price said Blinken also told the Chinese diplomat that his country’s surveillance balloon program has been exposed to the world, which has infiltrated five continents and some 40 countries.

Due to the balloon incident, Blinken had postponed the Beijing visit. He was scheduled to visit China on February 5 and 6, and if this had happened, he would have been the first US Secretary of State to visit China in five years.

Blinken also raised the issue of Russia-Ukraine war with Wang in the meeting held on Saturday. Blinken said, “There is concern about China’s malign support being given to Russia in the Ukraine war.” I am sharing with them because President Joe Biden shared it with President Xi Jinping that it could have serious implications for our relationship.

The US Secretary of State underlined the importance of always being open to diplomatic communication and dialogue. The two leaders are likely to meet again at the G-20 foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi next month.
