China to construct world’s largest artificial island airport to handle 43 million passengers

China Artificial Island Airport: China is once again ready to prove its superiority in the field of technology and engineering. China has announced that it is building the world’s largest artificial-island airport to handle 43 million passengers, reports South China Morning Post (SCMP). This airport will be built on the coast of Guangdong province and is designed to further strengthen the country’s international air traffic.

According to the official website of the Liaoning provincial government, the Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport, currently under construction, will cover 20 square kilometers (7.72 sq mi). Once completed, the airport will surpass Hong Kong International Airport, which is spread over 12.48 square kilometres, and Japan’s Kansai International Airport, which is spread over 10.5 square kilometres – both located on artificial islands.

Airport specialty

1. The annual passenger capacity of this airport will be 43 million. It will provide a convenient experience to passengers with the use of modern design and smart technologies.

2. The airport will be built on an artificial island, which will be a state-of-the-art structure above the sea. In this project, land will be constructed on a large scale by taking out sea water.

3. The airport will be designed to have minimal impact on the environment. Renewable energy sources like solar energy and wind power will be used at the airport.

The Liaoning provincial government reported that, as of August, “deep foundation treatment” had been completed on a 77,000 square meter reclamation area. Plans are also underway for land reclamation and foundation of the terminal building.

China already operates the world’s busiest airport (Beijing Capital International Airport). The construction of this new airport will take another step towards China becoming the center of global air traffic. This airport will further accelerate the economic development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. This place has the potential to become an international trade and tourism center of China.
