Chinese troops being removed from LAC says China Foreign Ministry

China said on Wednesday (October 30, 2024) that the armies of China and India are systematically implementing the agreements regarding withdrawal of troops in eastern Ladakh on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

In response to a question asked at a press conference here regarding the progress made in withdrawing the troops, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that there has been agreement between China and India on border related issues.

Refusing to give any details, he said, ‘At this time, Chinese and Indian troops are systematically implementing the agreements.’ He refused to answer the question whether there was any time limit for withdrawing the troops.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said in New Delhi on October 21 that the agreements were finalized after talks over the past several weeks and would resolve issues that arose in 2020. A day later, Lin confirmed the agreement and said in a press conference that after recent dialogue between China and India through diplomatic and military channels, an agreement has been reached on issues related to the border area.

He said China appreciates this progress and will continue to work with India to implement these agreements. Since announcing an end to the four-year-long military standoff in eastern Ladakh, China has released few details other than acknowledging that the disengagement process is going smoothly.

Prime Minister of the agreement regarding patrolling and withdrawal of troops on LAC in Eastern Ladakh Narendra Modi And Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed him during his bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan city of Russia on October 23.

An editorial in the official newspaper ‘Global Times’ and ‘People’s Daily’, the mouthpiece of the ruling Communist Party of China, said that the India-China agreement has attracted a lot of attention from the international community and bilateral relations will soon achieve stable development. It has important practical implications for getting back on track.

The editorial published on Tuesday said it had “undoubtedly” added a new positive factor to maintaining regional and global stability.

It said, ‘It is hoped that both sides will make good use of the opportunities provided by the current resolution, continue to implement the understandings reached at various levels, and work towards a new normal in the situation at the border, thereby improving bilateral relations. This will help in normalizing relations. “Only in this way can we contribute to the welfare of the people of both countries as well as to the stability and development of the world,” the editorial said.
