Kangana Ranaut told in an interview to The Lallantop how she was offered the film Gangster and she replaced Chitrangada. Imran Hashmi was seen in the lead role with Kangana in Gangster. Kangana was very young at that time.
This is how Kangana gave the audition
Kangana told in the interview that ‘Anurag Basu was making a film and at that time he was searching for a heroine. I was also giving auditions at that time. When I got to know about it, I was also giving auditions. Anurag and some editors were there with him. I gave the audition. Later I got a call from Anurag that you have got the job. After 2-3 days I again got a call from Anurag that you have lost your job. Bhatt sahab is saying that the girl is very young. He said Chitrangada has got your role.’
The film came out of Chitrangada’s hands
Kangana further said- ‘Anurag called again and said that you have got the job. Chitrangada is not picking up the phone from any of us, so I got this film this way.’ Kangana became famous overnight with this film. If Chitrangada had done this film, then today she would have been at a different position in the industry.
