Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud: Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud always has a smile on his face. The CJI never forgets to take out time from his busy lifestyle to keep himself fit. He is going to retire at the end of November this year. In an interview, he had said that he was very shy in childhood, so my teachers advised my parents to keep a pet dog to overcome my shyness.

These are the CJI’s favorite musicians

In an interview with The Week, the CJI talked about his interest in music. The CJI likes both Indian classical music and Western music. American singer Bob Dylan, British rock band Dire Straits and singer Adele are among his favourites. He also said that his mother was a trained musician and a disciple of Kishori Amonkar, one of the most revered classical singers of her time.

This fear haunted the CJI’s father

The Chief Justice says that he started learning music on the insistence of his parents. He said, “I learned to play harmonium and tabla in my childhood. I used to play tabla very well. At one point my father started telling my mother that I might become a tabla player. This worried my father.” The Chief Justice told that his father wanted him to become a doctor, lawyer or engineer.

CJI used to practice music secretly

CJI Chandrachud also said, “My mother’s guru Kishori Amonkar used to come to our house almost every week. When she was practicing music, I used to sit behind the curtain and listen to her practice.” He said, I used to go to her house with my mother every Saturday and spend the whole morning there. I used to play with her small children, but most of the time I used to listen to the music playing in the next room.
