Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has welcomed the decision of the Union Cabinet to develop the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. CM Yogi has posted on his official X account and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this. CM Yogi has written that the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Airports Authority of India to develop the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. The development of this international airport at a cost of ₹ 2,869.65 crore will provide new heights to the development of entire Uttar Pradesh including Kashi.
Let us tell you that the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the proposal of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, which also includes construction of new terminal building, apron extension, runway extension, parallel taxi track and associated works. The estimated financial expenditure on increasing the passenger handling capacity at the airport from the existing 3.9 mppa to 9.9 million passengers per year (mppa) will be Rs 2869.65 crore. The new terminal building spread over 75,000 square meters has been designed to have a capacity of 6 mppa and proper management of 5000 peak hour passengers (PHP). It has been designed to reflect the vast cultural heritage of the city.
The proposal includes extending the runway to 4075 m x 45 m and constructing a new apron to park 20 aircraft. Varanasi Airport will be developed as a green airport with the main objective of ensuring environmental sustainability by incorporating energy optimization, recycling of waste, reduction of carbon emissions, use of solar energy, and natural daylighting, along with other sustainable measures at all stages of planning, development and operation.
