Today the business of the coaching industry in the country has become so big that coaching owners have given billions of rupees to the government as GST this year. Today, most parents put their children in coaching during school time for good education. Not only this, after giving the 12th exam, students also take coaching for years to get admission in different courses. After taking admission in college and completing graduation, those students again join coaching for years to get a government job. There are some government and private employees who leave their job or take study leave from their job to prepare for any other big exam including UPSC and join coaching again. At the same time, today the fees of most coaching centers are lakhs of rupees and they teach hundreds of students sitting together. Now if you calculate, a student pays lakhs of rupees as fees to coaching centers in his life. In simple language, the business of coaching industry in India alone has reached billions and trillions.

Coaching owners paid billions of rupees in GST

The proof of how rapidly the coaching industry is growing in the country is that in the last four-five years, the GST collection from coaching institutes has more than doubled. According to the data of the Revenue Department of the Finance Ministry, while GST collection of Rs 2240.73 crore was received from coaching institutes in 2019-20, this number has increased to Rs 5517.45 crore in 2023-24. Apart from this, even during Covid in 2020-21, this figure has been 2215.24 crores. The collection has been Rs 3045.12 crore in 2021-22 and Rs 4667.03 crore in 2022-23.

Guidelines also issued

Let us tell you that the Ministry of Education had also issued guidelines for coaching centers on 16 January 2024. In which there was mention of problems like charging high fees from students, imposing more stress on students. But now the government is considering that understanding the problems of the students, the Center will have to work on a policy in the interest of the students in collaboration with the state governments.
