Gauhar / Delhi. Coffee is still available for five rupees in the five-star hotel Taj Mahal located in Lutyens’ Delhi. It is also famous by the name of ‘Kona Coffee’. This coffee is being served since 1978 in the restaurant ‘Machan’ of the Taj Mahal Hotel. It has been 42 years since this restaurant opened in the hotel.
Mukesh, who made this coffee, told that Kona coffee comes from ‘Karnataka, Chikkamagaluru’. There are two types of beans in this coffee, Arabica and Robusta. One is smooth and the other is hard. Because of mixing these two, its flavor comes out very good.
Kona Coffee Stories
There are many stories about the name of this coffee. Mukesh told that regular customers coming from 1978 tell that this coffee used to come from a corner, that’s why this coffee has been named Kona Coffee. Arun, who is also the Director of Culinary Operations and Food & Beverages at Taj, said that it is because of the legacy and the nostalgic feeling that he still serves this coffee here.
These conditions are applicable with coffee
To drink this Rs 5 coffee, the customer will have to place a minimum catering order of Rs 500, which is applicable per person. The special thing is that it is available only in a fixed time, for which you have to come here between 1:00 pm to 6:00 am. This coffee has such a magic on some customers that they come to drink it 3 to 4 times a week.

To reach the Taj Mahal Hotel, you have to get down at the ‘Khan Market’ metro station on the Violet Line. You will reach here within 5 minutes by any rickshaw as soon as you exit from gate number 2. The Taj Mahal Hotel is open seven days a week.
