Communications Biology Magazine Research Are big animals really shrinking now Know what science says

There was a time on earth when there were such huge animals that humans looked like ants in front of them. Even today there are some animals which are much bigger than humans. However, now a new research has come which says that the size of animals and birds is changing. To put it plainly, they are shrinking compared to before, that is, they are becoming smaller. Let us know why this is happening and what effect it will have on the future of animals.

What does research say?

According to a research report published in the journal Science, after studying 60 years of data, results have emerged that changes have been seen in the size of some organisms as compared to before. Something similar has also been said in the research published in Communications Biology magazine.

At the same time, Shovanlal Roy, an ecosystem modeler at the University of Reading, says that this happens because we try to adapt ourselves to the weather and environment of the place where we live. On this basis the size of animals increases and decreases. In a way, this research was going to challenge the Copps rule.

What is Copps rule?

Cope’s rule states that many animal groups have a tendency to grow in size over thousands and millions of years. In fact, 19th century paleontologist Edward Cope was the first to observe that the horse, whose early ancestors were small dog-sized animals, gradually increased in size over time.

However, according to the research report published in the journal Communications Biology, the size of organisms not only increases but also decreases. He took dinosaurs as an example. Researchers said that today there are many creatures which were big in the dinosaur era but are much smaller than that now.
