Uttarakhand News: The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 35 lakh to the acid attack survivor. Recently, after hearing the case of a petitioner, the High Court gave this direction. In the court, Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra said that compensation of Rs 35 lakh should be given to the petitioner in addition to the amount already paid, it would be appropriate and sufficient for him.
The High Court also said that if the petitioner is ready to do something, then he should also be given some vocational training. The court said that the entire cost of operation, travel and stay of the acid attack survivor should also be borne by the Uttarakhand government. The Court observed, “Apart from the aforesaid amount of compensation and vocational training, the State Government shall also provide free medical treatment to the victim as it has also been brought to our notice that acid attack survivors are also required to undergo surgery, which includes skin grafting.” is needed.

The court further said that if there is no proper technology, equipment or doctors in the hospitals of the state of Uttarakhand for the surgery of the victim, then the government will be bound to get her treated in any hospital outside. She can get treatment in New Delhi or Chandigarh PGI.” The court said, “The travel and stay expenses of the petitioner’s attendant will also be borne by the state. However, the Government’s UKSLSA (Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority) is directed to release and directly transfer an amount of Rs 35 lakh in the name of the acid attack survivor through RTGS/NEFT.”

In September 2019, there was talk of giving him an additional compensation of Rs 1,50,000 on the court’s order.
The government had said that since the DLSA had already paid the compensation to the petitioner, she could appeal to the Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority. The government argued that the petitioner should be compensated under the old scheme and not the new scheme which was implemented in 2018 as the acid attack had already happened before that. However, Justice Mishra rejected the government’s arguments in the High Court. Now a separate compensation of Rs 35 lakh will have to be given to the victim.
