Concession For Students: Being the fourth largest rail network in the world, Indian Railways transports a huge number of passengers daily. Due to being cheap and simple, lakhs of people travel daily by Indian Railways. Railway also gives many facilities to its passengers. You may not know, the railway charges only about 50 percent of the travel expenses from the passengers. Even after this, Railways gives many more discounts to its passengers in ticket booking. In March 2020, Railways had abolished the exemption given in all types of ticket categories to prevent people from non-essential travel. But it was started again by the Railways and the student gets exemption in 11 categories. Let us know which students can take advantage of this exemption.

General category students are given 50 percent concession in second class and sleeper class and up to 50 percent concession is given in MST (Monthly Seasonal Ticket) and QST (Quarterly Seasonal Ticket). SC/ST category students get 75 percent concession in second and sleeper class and 75 percent concession in MST and QST.

There is a 50% concession in second class for students appearing in the Mains Exam (SSC Exams) of UPSC and Central Staff Selection Commissions. In addition, research scholars below 35 years of age who are traveling for research work are given 50 per cent discount on second and sleeper class tickets.
